Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our gold, our pricing, and your order.
Company
We're a family-owned gold chain manufacturer based in Los Angeles, making chains since 1982. Over 40 years later, we're still doing it ourselves — every rope, Milano, and Miami Cuban chain we sell is manufactured in-house, per order.
Because there's nobody standing between you and the manufacturer. Most gold chains pass through a wholesaler and a retailer before they reach you, and each one adds a markup. We are the manufacturer, and we sell direct.
That's how we hold one of the lowest costs per gram on the market without cutting a single corner on the gold or the craftsmanship. When you contact us, you're talking to the people who actually make your chain.
In Los Angeles, California — in our own facility, by our own team. Nothing is outsourced and nothing is drop-shipped.
Call or text (213) 394-8988, email sales@ropechainla.com, or use our contact form. We're an online-only manufacturer, so we don't have a walk-in showroom — but we answer fast, and you'll be speaking with the people who build your chain.
Yes. Custom work and wholesale are handled case by case. Send us the details through our contact page and we'll get back to you with pricing and a timeline.
Products & Fit
Solid gold. Always. Every chain and bracelet we make is solid 10KT, 14KT, or 18KT gold — no plating, no bonding, no hollow links, no filler. What you hold is gold all the way through, which is exactly why it holds its value.
Yes. Every piece is stamped with its karat — 10K, 14K, or 18K — so the purity is verifiable on the chain itself.
- 10K — our most durable and most affordable. Ideal for daily wear and heavier widths.
- 14K — the sweet spot, and our best seller. Richer color than 10K, still tough enough for everyday.
- 18K — the deepest, richest gold color and the highest purity we offer. Softer than 10K and 14K, so treat it with more care.
Rope chains run from 4mm up to 20mm, in lengths from 18" to 36". Available ranges vary by style, karat, and gold color.
- 4–6.5mm — everyday wear, pairs cleanly with a pendant.
- 7–12mm — real presence, worn on its own.
- 13–20mm — statement pieces, built to be noticed.
As a general guide: 18"–20" sits at or just below the collarbone, 22"–24" sits at the chest and is the most popular range for men, and 26"+ sits lower for a relaxed or layered look. A longer chain is also the safer choice if you're hanging a large pendant.
They're close, but they're approximate. Our chains are handmade, so the finished weight can vary slightly from the figures on our weight charts. To calculate an estimate yourself, take the grams-per-inch for your width and karat and multiply by your chain length.
See the Rope Chain, Miami Cuban, and Milano weight charts.
Diamond-cut refers to precision facets cut into the surface of the gold, which catch and throw light far more aggressively than a plain polish. It's a finish on solid gold — not a coating and not an actual diamond. We offer it across yellow, white, and rose gold.
Store it in a soft pouch or a lined box when you're not wearing it. Keep it away from harsh chemicals, chlorine, and abrasive surfaces. To clean it, use warm water, a drop of mild soap, and a soft cloth — then dry it fully. Solid gold doesn't fade or tarnish, so a chain that's cared for will look the same in twenty years.
Orders & Shipping
Shipping is free on every order within the United States. No minimum, no surprise fee at checkout.
Allow 5–10 business days from order to delivery. Your chain doesn't sit in a warehouse — it gets made after you order it, which is the reason we can price it the way we do.
You'll get a confirmation email with a tracking number as soon as your order ships. We also keep customers updated directly throughout the build — it's one of the things people mention most in our reviews.
Not at this time. We currently ship within the United States only.
Reach out as soon as possible. Because every chain is made to order, we can adjust or cancel free of charge as long as production hasn't started. Once we've begun manufacturing your piece, a 15% restocking fee applies to cancellations.
Call (213) 394-8988 or email sales@ropechainla.com — we'd much rather fix the order than cancel it.
Contact us immediately — before your order ships, we can usually correct it without any issue. Once a package is in transit to an incorrect address, we can't be responsible for the delay or the loss, so please double-check your address at checkout.
Returns & Exchanges
Because every piece is manufactured to order, all sales are final and we don't accept returns for refund. We do offer a 3-day exchange window from the date of delivery.
Read the full Return & Exchange Policy.
Contact us within 3 days of delivery at sales@ropechainla.com or (213) 394-8988. The piece must come back brand new — unworn, unscratched, undamaged, in its original packaging. We inspect every returned item on arrival, and once it's approved we dispatch the replacement promptly.
Customized and personalized pieces are final and can't be exchanged. Neither can items that weren't purchased directly from ropechainla.com, or any piece showing signs of wear, damage, or scratching.
Two reasons. Every chain is built from scratch for the customer who ordered it — nothing is pulled off a shelf. And gold is priced daily, so the metal in your chain was bought at the price locked in the moment you ordered. Accepting open-ended returns would mean pricing that risk into every chain we sell, and we'd rather pass the savings to you instead.
If something isn't right with your order, call us. We're the manufacturer, and we want to solve it.
Payments & Pricing
Because gold does. Our prices are calculated from the daily market price of gold, then adjusted for the actual purity and weight of the piece you're buying. That's it — no fixed retail markup layered on top.
It means the number you see is the real, current cost of the gold in your chain plus our work. Most retailers set a price once and leave it there, which protects them when gold falls and overcharges you the rest of the time.
Yes. The price is locked the moment your order is placed. If gold climbs while your chain is being made, you still pay what you were quoted.
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Shop Pay. Checkout is fully secured through Shopify — we never see or store your card details.
Yes. Financing is available at checkout through Affirm and Shop Pay Installments. Eligibility, terms, and any interest are determined by the provider at checkout — you'll see the exact terms before you commit to anything.
Yes. You can add a professional appraisal to your order at checkout for $100. It's the document you'd want on file for insuring the piece.
